Intermediate Conversational Hebrew

Do you want to practice your Hebrew outside of a prayer service? Amaze yourself with how much fun you’ll have speaking Hebrew. Prerequisites: Prior knowledge of basic conversational Hebrew and ability to write Hebrew script. It’s not too late to join the class! CFJE Community Hebrew Ulpan
BJBE will host six Hebrew Ulpan classes sponsored by the Chicago Foundation for Jewish Education (CFJE). Participants will learn to speak, read and write Hebrew in a structured class environment. For more information, please visit the CFJE website at http://www.cfje.org/merkaz_ivrit/.
Level 2 Ulpan
This course is for students who can speak and read simple Hebrew sentences using the present tense, and can recognize and write cursive script. Students will add the past tense to their Hebrew toolbox and achieve greater fluency and confidence in verbal expression. Additional grammar rules are introduced in this course.
Level 3 Ulpan
This course is for students who are able to express themselves in Hebrew using simple sentences in both the present and past tenses. Students in this class will develop reading comprehension through paragraphs and short stories, and focus mastering the future tense. Primary goals of this course are to develop self-confidence in oral communication and improve reading fluency.
Level 4 Ulpan
This course is for students who are able to express themselves in complex sentences. The class will utilize Hebrew newspapers, songs, stories, and more to advance their reading and conversational skills. Students will also develop Hebrew writing skills with special attention to grammatical rules.
Mitkadmim 1 Ulpan
This course is designed for students who have solid skills in oral expression, grammar, and written comprehension. The course strengthens and deepens understanding of the Hebrew language through the use of Hebrew newspapers, several genres of literary texts, and various other media. Students advance their skills in all proficiency areas, extending their ability to converse comfortably, read diverse styles, express opinions orally, and write well in Modern Hebrew.
Mitkadmim 2 Ulpan
This yearly course is designed for students who have a high level of language proficiency. This custom-designed course is fluid in its content and includes stories by Israeli authors, exploration of Israeli newspapers, news and current events, poems and songs, and Israeli TV programs.
