Men's Club Happenings - March 2010
Dear Men's Club Members
Texas Hold-em Poker Tournament:
Men’s Club is proud to report that the 2nd Annual Texas Hold-em Poker Tournament was a tremendous success!!! Although we do not yet have a final tally, we are expecting to donate more than $3,000 to the temple’s Sustaining Gifts fund. We had 46 players, and tons of prizes. Congratulations to Jack Goldberg, who won 1st place, a Pinehurst Golf outing for 4, plus a 3 night, 4 day condo. Other winners were 2nd place, Bruce Kreisman, 4 Cubs tickets; 3rd place, Russ Barnett, 4 Bulls Tickets; 4th place, Steve Nitzkin, 2 Bulls vs Celtics tickets; 5th place, Jim Silverstein, 4 Sox tickets; 6th place, Greg Izenstark, $100 Abt gift card; 7th place Barry Paul, $50 Stoney River gift card; 8th place, Brad Swidler, Sirius Satellite radio with 1 yr subscription; 9th place, Marc Horwitz, Kemper Lakes golf for 3; and 10th place, Marvin Steinlauf, Maui Jim Sunglasses.
There was also a silent auction, with the following items being won: Marvin Steinlauf, who bid on and won Chicago Blackhawks tickets, Chicago Bulls tickets, Chicago Cubs tickets, Francescas Gift Certificate, Dinner for 8 at the Frazins house, and Dinner for 8 at Rabbi Stoller’s house. Thanks, Marv, for your overwhelming support. Other winners were Barry Paul, Morton's gift card; Robert Goldberg, WhiteSox tickets; Omri Kaufmann, Tennis lessons, and a Masa Sushi gift certificate; Joey Splansky, Chicago Bears package (see a cute picture of Joey swimming in his new sweatshirt on the temple’s photos page); Allan Ellison, Poker Pro lessons; and Brian Tenner, Kemper Lakes Golf, and Escape bowling.
And lastly, congratulations to Larry (& Josh) Krupp who won the night’s raffle.
I want to thank Todd Cohan, who oversaw this event, and to Mike Frazin and Allan Ellison, who were instrumental in getting prizes and running it. I want to give a special thanks to Jackie Edelson and Karen Swidler, who collected money, made sure the food was set up, and generally helped throughout the evening. They are now honorary members of Men’s Club!
Study, Supper, & Stoller:
The 2nd set of S, S, & S sessions have started, with the first session on Inter-Faith Marriage. The next two sessions will be on “Why Jews are Liberals”. It is still not too late to attend. For more information, see the flier.
Breakfast, Briefing, & Brotherhood:
Our ever-popular BBB is restarting this spring. Please join us at BJBE on Sunday, April 11th, as Bruce Levine of ESPN 1000 radio previews the 2010 baseball season. Then on May 23rd, Neil Steinberg of the Chicago Sun Times will speak. See our flier.
Other:
Watch for other events that are in planning, including bike rides, a golf outing, and our Walk for Israel Breakfast on May 2.
