Food - No pork or shellfish may be served at any time. At temple sponsored functions, meat and dairy may not be served at same meal. No leavened foods may be served during Passover. Baked goods may not contain lard or other animal fat. Events sponsored by BJBE groups/committees should consider having kosher and/or vegetarian options made available for meals. This responsibility lies with the group/committee sponsoring the event.
Nuts - Because of the increasing frequency of nut allergies, BJBE will not purchase nut products and asks all members and guests to avoid bringing nut products into the facility. The only exception to this policy is when nuts are part of a ritual observance. Walnuts for Tu B’shvat and Haroset for Passover are two such examples. BJBE will try to announce if nut products are being used as part of a ritual observance and provide a reasonable alternative. It is BJBE’s desire to raise consciousness through various means in order to sensitize outside vendors and internal committees and congregants regarding food in the building. This includes education regarding nut allergies, non-sugar options for diabetics, and sensitivity to gluten. BJBE does not assume liability for any allergic reactions to food products served in the facility.
